INGREDIENTS

  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 1 package active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Toppings of your choice (such as sliced bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, pepperoni, or sausage)

DIRECTIONS

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water, yeast, and honey. Let sit for 5-10 minutes, or until the yeast has activated and the mixture is foamy.
  2. Add the salt and olive oil to the bowl and stir to combine.
  3. Gradually add the flour to the bowl, stirring until a sticky dough forms.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for 5-10 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let rise in a warm, draft-free spot for 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
  6. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) and lightly oil a baking sheet or pizza stone.
  7. In a medium bowl, combine the crushed tomatoes, garlic, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.
  8. Roll out the pizza dough to your desired size and shape, then transfer it to the prepared baking sheet or pizza stone.
  9. Spread the tomato sauce over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges.
  10. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the sauce, then add your desired toppings.
  11. Bake the pizza for 12-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the crust is golden brown.
  12. Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.

Pair with a side salad or vegetable dish for a complete meal. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days, or in the freezer for up to 1 month. To reheat, place the pizza in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 10-15 minutes, or until heated through.
